Passmores, a leading UK specialist in timber buildings, has celebrated 30 years in partnership with Stenvalls Trä of Sweden.
The Rochester-based company is fully committed to caring for the environment and takes pride in using ethically sourced timber from Scandinavia.
“As part of our partnership with Stenvalls two trees get planted for every tree that is harvested,” says Stuart Slaughter, Passmore’s Sales Director. “This ensures forests are never depleted and will continue to produce wood long into the future.”
Managed forests are the most efficient carbon sinks and producers of oxygen. The ongoing process of harvesting and replanting means there is always a healthy share of the forest made up of younger trees in vigorous growth and this meets one of Passmores’ important objectives – sustainability.
“For every tonne of carbon dioxide that a tree absorbs from the atmosphere, it produces nearly ¾ of a tonne of oxygen,” Slaughter says. “The CO2 absorbed by a tree during its life is trapped or stored within the wood and remains so throughout the life of the product. Timber is the only truly renewable construction material on the planet.”
Furthermore, when harvested, timber requires far less energy to produce and build with than any other construction material. Using wood instead of other materials saves an average of 0.9 tonnes of CO2 per cubic metre.
“It’s not easy being green but we work hard at it and we are succeeding in nearly every area of our business, from our delivery vehicles to the way that we heat our factory,” Slaughter says.
Passmores is one of the few timber building manufacturers in the UK to have achieved certification under the Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody scheme (FSC License Code FSC-C013961). By using FSC timber, Passmores and therefore its customers are supporting better management of the world’s forests.
Passmores is a major manufacturer of quality timber buildings. It supplies garages, carriage houses, open barns and sports pavilions. For more details of its product range and green credentials, visit https://passmores.co.uk

China has unveiled a position paper on outer space governance, prioritising the prevention of space weaponisation while calling for a global framework to protect all nations’ legitimate rights beyond Earth. Addressing the inaugural Global Governance Forum near Beijing on Friday evening, Foreign Minister Wang Yi framed the document as one of eight key actions under Beijing’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI) – an overarching vision introduced by President Xi Jinping in September last year. “We...
India rewrite Asian Para Games record, but not every sport keeps pace
The Philippines’ dual push for stronger “minilateral” defence links and a more robust Asean security role is dividing analysts, with one calling the move “opportunistic”. Some experts view Manila’s advocacy for the “Squad” alliance as a strategic opportunity to deepen core security partnerships while chairing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Others question how much actual weight is carried by this informal defence grouping – comprising the United States, the Philippines, Japan and...

The European Union may hit more Chinese industries with quotas or tariffs before further negotiations with Beijing, the bloc’s trade chief said on Friday, naming plastics as a sector in which investigations are advanced. Maros Sefcovic said that when the bloc needs to move quickly to protect its industries, it will consider safeguards, which allow emergency measures to curb surges in imports, instead of engaging in longer negotiations. “We clearly will have to put it in order, prioritise, and...
Ante Milicic has left his post as coach of China’s national women’s team, the football association said on Friday, eight months before the World Cup. The 52-year-old Australian had been in charge since May 2024 and led the team to the semi-finals of the Women’s Asian Cup in March. That finish earned them a spot at next year’s World Cup in Brazil. Milicic also recently took China to fourth place at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan after losing 2-0 to North Korea in the semi-finals. “After...

Beijing has told Brussels not to “fantasise” that pressure will extract concessions. This came after China made a goodwill gesture in the recent hybrid-car trade deal. The European Union responded by doubling down on a proposed trade “kill switch”. The instrument follows a Franco-German proposal. It would let the bloc swiftly restrict single-market access in response to economic coercion. EU chief Ursula von der Leyen says all 27 leaders back it. Chemicals and machinery are priority sectors....
