Endoscopes are optical tube instruments used to illuminate or observe the interior of the human body. It is used for diagnostic and surgical purposes. Endoscopy surgery is usually less invasive, takes less time to recover and minimizes scars. Endoscopes are also used to obtain biopsy samples. The Neuro-Endoscopy procedure is the process of obtaining samples of brain tissue for diagnosis, removing tumors or removing fluid from a space filled with brain fluid. The device is usually inserted through a small incision of the skull, mouth or nose. Some of the diseases treated with Neuro-Endoscopy include hydrocephalus, glioblasts and cobweb cysts, pituitary tumors, craniofacial tumors, and hearing neuromas. Neuro-Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows surgeons to perform complex brain surgery with small incisions using Neuro-Endoscopy. Neuro-Endoscopy is a small telescope-like device equipped with a high-resolution video camera and an eyepiece at the end to allow the neurosurgeon to navigate and access tumors in the brain. These instruments are used to illuminate, examine, and document difficult to access areas. Neuro-Endoscopy devices are used to perform operations for conditions such as obstructive hydrocephalus, various intraventricular lesions, hypothalamic hamartomas, craniosynostosis, and skull base tumors.

The average list price of a Neuro-Endoscopy system is as high as USD 10,000 to USD 15,000. Healthcare providers particularly in developing countries such as India, Brazil, and Mexico have low financial resources to invest in such costly sophisticated technologies. Moreover, healthcare staff needs to be trained for the efficient handling and maintenance of Neuro-Endoscopy systems and equipment. This is a major issue as training costs for Neuro-Endoscopy procedures are high. Considering the high cost of training, only a limited number of surgeons opt for undergoing training for Neuro-Endoscopy. Owing to the high cost of equipment as well as the high training and maintenance costs, Neuro-Endoscopy procedures are generally expensive. This is a major factor restraining the growth of the Neuro-Endoscopy devices market.
