Roofing scams in South Florida still going on after Hurricane Irma South Florida residents who have damage following Hurricane Irma are often at a loss as to what to do about the damage. Some may be desperate, and this desperation is exactly what scammers are looking for. Roofing scams continue to be a problem in South Florida. People who are looking to have their roofs repaired quickly and cheaply are often using anyone that comes to their door, offering their services. Sadly, the people who are offering their services are scammers.
The scammers plan to take the home owners hard earned money and disappear. Raimond Aulen of the Fort Myers Roofing Company has a few suggestions to help prevent being scammed by false roofing companies. “First, a decent roofing company will not show up at your door unannounced. We wait for the customer to contact us,” said Aulen. Aulen also recommends asking to see copies of a business license and insurance. “A reputable company will have copies of their business license on hand as well as a copy of their liability insurance. If the roofer denies having either, mentions it is on the way or lapsed, do not accept their offer,” said Aulen.
Many roofing scammers will offer quotes that are well under quotes from other companies but also insist on upfront payment for materials. This is clear evidence of a scam. “No Fort Myers roof repair company is going to ask for payment up front. Quotes for work should be competitive with one another and not considerably cheaper than one or another. If you are not 100 percent certain, ask for references for past work. Honest roofing contractors are more than willing to give you references for previous satisfied customers,” continued Aulen. Ronco Roofing wants
South Florida residents to be aware of scams and scammers by using common sense. If it sounds too good to be true, it likely is. “Contact us if you have roof damage from Hurricane Irma or any roofing needs,” said Aulen the Fort Myers roofer

Fandom vs flag: why young Chinese embrace Japanese pop culture but reject war-era symbols
Young Chinese people enjoy Japanese pop culture such as anime and music, but many draw a firm line at symbols of Japanese militarism. That line was tested recently at Moscow State University, where Chinese students confronted a classmate wearing Japan’s rising sun flag in class and called for his repatriation, state-run newspaper Global Times reported on Sunday. Many countries, including China, view the flag as a symbol of Japanese militarism and aggression. Japan’s Self-Defence Forces still use...
