The Thanksgiving long weekend is one of the busiest travel stretches of the year for Chicago-area households. Pet birds depend on routine and familiar surroundings, and holiday travel can disrupt both when boarding arrangements are not handled with care. Belle Aire Kennels addresses that by asking owners to supply the bird’s own cage, so the setting stays familiar. Birds depend on routine and familiar surroundings, and holiday travel can disrupt that balance if boarding arrangements are not handled with care. Trained staff and consistent daily routines help maintain a sense of normalcy for a bird while its owner is away, reducing the stress that comes with an unfamiliar environment.
Packing the right items can ease a bird's transition into boarding. Owners should bring their bird's regular food and any favorite treats, along with medication accompanied by clear dosage and timing instructions. Familiar toys or perches, plus a towel or blanket carrying the scent of home, can also help a bird settle in more easily during its stay.
Labeling every item helps staff keep food, medication, and personal belongings organized throughout a bird's stay, and owners should pack extra food and medication beyond the expected length of the trip in case travel plans shift. Written care instructions covering feeding schedules, routines, and behavioral notes allow staff to replicate a bird's normal day as closely as possible.
With Thanksgiving weekend approaching, Downers Grove-area bird owners are encouraged to book early. Preparing a bird's bag using this guidance can make drop-off smoother for both pet and owner alike.
Belle Aire Kennels cares for birds alongside rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, and other small pets, with staff following structured daily routines in a quiet residential setting with lush green landscaping. Because the O’Driscolls live on the property, the kennel provides full-time on-site monitoring rather than care limited to business hours.
