Dmitry Druzhinsky Emphasizes Training Infrastructure and Consistency in MatchPoint NYC Tennis Development
Oct 6, 2026
New York City, New York Oct 5, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - The demands of elite tennis following the US Open are bringing renewed attention to an issue central to Dmitry Druzhinsky's athlete-development strategy at MatchPoint NYC: building a training system that supports not only competition, but also conditioning, consistency and recovery over the course of an athlete's development.
US Open champion Elena Rybakina recently announced that she would miss the Billie Jean King Cup Finals after a physically demanding month. She made the decision shortly after defeating Aryna Sabalenka to capture her first US Open title and rise to world No. 1.
The sequence illustrates an important reality of professional tennis. Performance at the highest level depends on more than what happens during a match. Training load, physical preparation, recovery, and scheduling can all shape an athlete's ability to sustain performance.
For Dmitry Druzhinsky, those considerations begin well before a player reaches professional competition.
MatchPoint NYC's long-term athlete development approach focuses on building a foundation that can evolve with the athlete. Technical training remains essential, but the surrounding training infrastructure can help provide the physical preparation and continuity required as competition becomes more demanding.
This is one reason MatchPoint NYC continues to focus on developing its own athletes. Young players need time to improve, face stronger competition, adjust their preparation, and learn to manage the sport's physical demands.
Investment in the training base therefore becomes an investment in future performance rather than simply an expansion of facilities.
The approach is especially relevant as the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games move closer. Preparation for LA28 is already part of the international sports calendar, giving athlete-development programs an important future benchmark.
MatchPoint NYC's strategy, however, extends beyond the Olympic cycle. The objective is to create conditions in which athletes can progress over years, with LA28 serving as one major opportunity to assess the results of that work.
For Dmitry Druzhinsky, the test of training infrastructure is ultimately what athletes can achieve with it. Developing players internally, supporting consistent preparation, and giving them the resources to advance are intended to create a pipeline in which today's investment can become tomorrow's tournament appearances, titles, and broader competitive achievements.
