Aliso Viejo, California, United States, October 9, 2026 -- Religious values have played a role in shaping the business philosophies of several prominent entrepreneurs, including Sam Walton of Walmart, J. Willard Marriott of Marriott Hotels, John Tyson of Tyson Foods, and Truett Cathy of Chick-fil-A. The relationship between faith, work, and commerce has also been the subject of extensive academic discussion. In 1905, German sociologist Max Weber published his influential work on the Protestant work ethic, arguing that religiously influenced attitudes toward work, discipline, and achievement contributed to the development of modern capitalism in Northern Europe. In the decades that followed, scholars increasingly examined the relationship between religion and business ethics, exploring how principles drawn from different religious traditions can inform professional conduct and organizational practices. Values such as integrity, diligence, compassion, accountability, and social responsibility have increasingly become part of broader discussions surrounding ethical leadership and responsible business practices. Financial expert and published author Anthony Joseph Amaradio, whose book Faithful with Much: Breaking Down the Barriers to Generous Giving is available on Amazon in Kindle, Hardcover, and Paperback editions, has spoken about the role that faith and personal values can play in shaping professional and philanthropic priorities. Drawing on his own experiences, Amaradio advocates an approach to business and financial management that incorporates principles of responsible stewardship, generosity, integrity, and service.
Some scholars have argued that religion-based business ethics is a concept irrelevant to non-believers and inapplicable in the secular corporate world. However, faith can still have a positive impact since it introduces universal values which help build inclusive, motivated, and empathetic work environments, Anthony Joseph Amaradio points out. Corporate social responsibility (CSR), for example, has become one of the principal policy issues in modern business, and its origin can be traced back to the philanthropic activities of the first American tycoons. Charitable giving and community support are endeavors promoted by all major religions, along with values such as tolerance, diligence, and the pursuit of personal betterment. Devout business leaders get inspiration from their beliefs, prioritizing sustainability, equal opportunity, fair treatment, and fitting rewards for contribution. Companies run by such people tend to have fiercely loyal employees and are held in high regard, both by the public and their competitors.
One study in particular revealed the positive influence of faith (in this case, Christianity) on business ethics, indicating that spiritual values remain strong within the younger generations although they may be wary of accepting religious labels. Jenny Main and Emily Lean of Union University focused on Millennials, who are expected to comprise 75% of the global workforce by 2025. As the report notes, this generation is strongly entrepreneurial, but the desire to succeed does not come at the cost of sacrificing morality and personal values. “Christian Millennials are engaging the business world from a perspective entirely different from their forefathers, a behavior common among this individualistic generation […] They are not interested in work for work’s sake but rather concern themselves more with charity work, social responsibility, and increasing consumer value. As far as this group seems to be concerned, people come first, then profit.” The authors write in the concluding part of their report, “Of all the groups compared, Christians and non-Christians had the greatest significant difference in their means on the work values and work ethic portions of the survey […] [The] numbers seem to support the idea that religion has a noticeable influence on work ethic for this generation.”

China is running the most systematic effort of any outside power to learn from the drone war in Ukraine, with military and defence-industry analysts typically writing up new battlefield techniques within about four months, according to a new analysis. But it usually took a year or more before those lessons showed up publicly in People’s Liberation Army (PLA) training, equipment or force structure, Lilly Min-Chen Lee and Kateryna Bondar wrote in a commentary published on October 7 by the...
The US military will execute Nidal Hasan by firing squad at Fort Hood. Hasan, responsible for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, will be the first to face this execution method since 1945. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the execution will be made public and livestreamed. This decision underscores the seriousness of the consequences for such actions in the military.

He emphasized that he was discussing temporary gas price increases due to wartime circumstances. Trump stated that Americans need to consider this increase a small price for national safety. His remarks received backlash from California's Democratic leaders and some Republicans.

Flavio Bolsonaro said he would work with the US and China if he becomes Brazil’s president, after a surprise election performance left him poised to join a wave of conservative leaders pushing Latin America closer to Washington. “I’m not going to pick sides,” Bolsonaro said at an event in Brasilia on Thursday. “My side will be the Brazilian people, whether we’re dealing with China, Israel, the Middle East, Argentina or India. It doesn’t matter. That’s how I’m going to govern.” Bolsonaro finished...
Chinese researchers have developed a catalyst that converts synthesis gas into sustainable jet fuel – an advance that could boost production, help meet net-zero carbon goals and yield a gross profit margin above 50 per cent. The team verified the efficacy of the chemical catalyst in a thousand-tonne pilot test and found that combining woody biomass-derived synthesis gas, or syngas, with the cobalt-manganese catalyst enabled the “highly efficient synthesis of jet fuel”. Based on a techno-economic...
The United States has downgraded Hong Kong to the lowest tier in its annual human trafficking report, citing shortcomings in prosecutions and victim identification, an assessment the city’s government rejected as “entirely unfounded”. The US State Department’s 2026 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, released on Thursday, moved Hong Kong from the Tier 2 Watch List, where it had been listed for two consecutive years, to Tier 3. That places the city alongside mainland China and Macau among 20...
