Aardvark Automotive, a full-service auto repair company in Amarillo, Texas is proud to announce that Alicia Flores has been named the recipient of the 2020 Wheels to Prosper Program. Flores is the tenth Wheels to Prosper recipient of a vehicle from Aardvark Automotive.
This year, Aardvark Automotive saw nearly double the nominations, after advertising a call for entries on News Channel 10. “2020 has been anything but a typical year, for everyone,” said Brandon Anderson, owner of Aardvark Automotive. “We wanted to make sure that as many people as possible knew about this program, so we invested in extra outreach, to get the word out. We received nearly 100 nominations of individuals, who need reliable transportation.”
Aardvark Automotive then tasked seven members of the community with reviewing all of the nominations. The selection committee ultimately named Alicia Flores as the 2020 Wheels to Prosper recipient.
“Ms. Flores is a single mother of two children, one of whom has special needs. She needed a safe vehicle to take her children to school, and everyday appointments. She also has dreams of continuing her own education, to provide a better life for her children. Our team at Aardvark Automotive is honored to play a role in making things a bit easier, and safer for her, as she juggles so many responsibilities, and chases after her dreams.”
This year, the vehicle donated to Aardvark Automotive for the program wasn’t a family car. However, Anderson says that wasn’t going to stop his team from helping a neighbor in need. “We sold the car that was donated and used the money to purchase a four-door sedan. As we do each year, we gave the car a thorough inspection, and replaced items such as the rack & pinion, fuel pump, power steering pump, drive belt, and oil pan gasket.” The team at Aardvark Automotive also gave the car a few cosmetic upgrades before presenting the car to Ms. Flores. “After our inspection and repairs, the final result is a car that is safe, and reliable, which we hope will help make things a little easier for Ms. Flores and her children,” Anderson said.
“It was rewarding to once again identify someone who really needed and deserved a helping hand. To be able to provide that helping hand is an extraordinary honor for us. We are humbled by the opportunity to play a small role in helping Ms. Flores achieve her life goals,” Anderson said.
Aardvark Automotive has been participating in the Wheels to Prosper initiative since it first launched in 2011. Anderson plans to continue with the program for years to come and would love to eventually be able to award multiple winners each year.
“We would love to be able to do this program a couple of times a year if we could, but sometimes it is a little difficult to find someone that can donate a car. Financial donations are always welcome and if someone would like to donate a car, we are always happy to inspect and repair it to perfect working order, to award to a deserving individual,” Anderson added.
