The first travellers to pass through the redeveloped Huanggang port on its first day of operation have praised its convenience. The new facility opened at 6.30am on Monday, providing 24-hour clearance services for passengers and passenger vehicles. One traveller from the Shenzhen side said it was spacious, comfortable and very convenient. “I came early just to try it out," she said. "It feels very big and comfortable. You get off the Shenzhen metro, go up two levels, and you're through – it's very convenient.” Another woman praised its enhanced connectivity, with more bus services reaching different districts in the SAR. “We have more choices now, with buses and minibuses,” she said. “There are also many new routes. In the past, we could only go to Kowloon or Hong Kong Island after crossing Huanggang port, but now there are routes to Tai Po and Ma On Shan, as well as to the airport. It is convenient for people arriving in Hong Kong.” From the Hong Kong side, a traveller said the new checkpoint made it more convenient for her to visit Shenzhen and other mainland cities, adding it would be her first choice for future border crossings. “I used to cross over using Lo Wu checkpoint, but the fare to get there is more expensive than coming to Huanggang port,” she said. "Also, the new facility is very convenient with many buses coming here. A man said it only took him around 20 minutes to reach the checkpoint from Tsing Yi, putting the new facility within easy reach. Some travellers also drove over, and feng shui master Mak Ling-ling was one of them. “The operation of the port was smooth," she said. "As for the time required, the redeveloped port has more lanes than before so the process was faster.” Mak said the clearance procedure took less than a minute, making it a pleasant experience.
